The President of the Chamber of Deputies

The President of the Chamber (Speaker of the House) represents the Chamber of Deputies in any collective announcement and supervises its work and order. The position is private to born Brazilians. Its main purpose is to define the list of measures to be considered by the Floor.
Among other tasks, the Speaker substitutes the President of the Republic and takes part in the Republic Council and in the National Defense Council.
If the Speaker is absent, the Floor sessions are chaired by the immediate deputies: the Vice-Presidents, Secretaries and Substitutes, in this order, or, finally, by the eldest, among those with higher number of terms.
